We recently attended a NW Family Business Advisors meeting and heard Jasmine Donovan, the CEO of Dick’s Drive-in Restaurants. I came dressed for the event, wearing a Dick’s stocking hat (see the picture below).
Two people thought they were funny by asking me if it wasn’t warm enough for me (75o at 7:30 am) and two asked, why the hat? I said I was supporting our speaker and pointed to my head so they could see it said “Dick’s.”
We are all busy. Our brains are active all the time. Sometimes this means we don’t pay attention to the small stuff, like a Dick’s logo.
I used to preach to new consultants that no matter how well a networking meeting went, once they left the meeting, the phone would ring, a client issue arose, and they were “old news.”
It’s why we should all stay in touch, like via this Weekly Memo. But not like retailers that ask for your email to send a receipt and then send daily emails (or more often).
It comes down to you can do more business with existing customers or existing referral sources than digging up new ones, if you do it right.
