When There’s a Process…

By February 26, 2025No Comments

There’s process for everything. Some detailed and mandatory like when manufacturing vehicles, plans, appliances, etc. Some intuitive, like things we do daily, how we talk with clients/customers, etc.

There’s a process for a business seller to present themselves and their company. Similar for a business buyer impressing an owner/seller. And the same whenever trying to get a customer.

A soon-to-be-client sent another company basic information about his business (in-house financial statements). No context, no updates for 2024, just old statements. They came back and said we think it’s worth X, which was about 70% of what we wanted.

When hired we said, let’s step back and do it the right way. We put together a short overview for this company and two other buyers we’d talked with. One came back with an offer 11% over what we were targeting.

Every business has nuances in how they generate customers, provide service, make a product, etc. It’s like when I taught a class at the SBA and trained new consultants. I constantly said:

“If you do the things you’re supposed to do, good things happen.”

Of course you must do those things the right way.
