I came across an old talk I used to give, and it struck me how important my three key factors to getting any deal done are.
- Motivation
- Relationship
- Education
Doesn’t matter if it’s business or personal, the above three factors are often more important than the numbers. And it all starts with motivation.
- I recently wrote about how my friends in the Rotary Club of Antigua finally are motivated to do the busy work when we’re not there. The motivation is, “There may not be another grant project without the work they’re to do.”
- Business sellers must be motivated or why sell? More than money, there have to be thoughts of retirement, or they’re burned out, have a health issue, or just don’t want to manage people any more.
- Business buyers better be motivated because it’s a leap of faith to lay out capital and hope you’re as good as you think you are at running a business. And motivation can’t turn into buyer fever when stupid things are done. Things like overpaying, losing your cool when the process hits a speedbump, etc.
Think about how motivation plays out for job seekers and hirers, dating, making financial decisions, and much more
