Don’t Brag – Find the Issue

By October 23, 2024No Comments

We had meetings last week with a couple prospective business owner clients. One said it more directly than the other on why he liked us.

He told his wife (a company VP), in front of us, he gets calls all the time from investment bankers, many from New York. They all tell him they’ll put together a deck (about the business) and market the company.

He said we talked to him about the business, his goals, what needed to be done, etc. We asked him about his background. There wasn’t any bragging or high-pressure sales. He said we came across as “real people.”

We’re not close to them becoming a client because we don’t know if they’ll (want to) do the things needed to make the business more attractive. I do know if we had come in with a “pitch” there’s no chance they’d continue the conversation.

It’s all about being legit, not overpromising, and taking interest in what others want.

“I’m not crazy about reality, but it’s still the only place to get a decent meal.” Groucho Marx

“There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.” Oscar Wilde
