The University of Colorado’s 2022 football team was one of if not the worst team in major college football. So, they hired NFL Hall of Famer (and former Major League Baseball player) Deion Sanders as their next coach.
In his first press conference he said (and I paraphrase) he told his players to enter the transfer portal, look for a place to play next year, because he’s bringing in his own players (to win).
Football is a business but it’s not business as we think of it day in and day out. In small business especially you can’t turn over the majority of your employees and expect to improve.
In a buy-sell deal the employees are one of the most important assets of a business. In our books we have a three-legged stool to make the point all parties want the employees to keep their jobs and they all also fear someone else is going to kick out their leg of the stool, meaning the employees leave.
The employees fear losing their jobs, the seller wants his or her people to keep their jobs, and the buyer needs the employees to stay. They all have the same objective. It’s why in this newsletter, other newsletters, articles, and book there is so much about employees, their happiness, productivity, etc. Good (great) people are hard to replace.
